About

Janine Gaspari is a painter, illustrator, print-maker, embroiderer, and visual experimenter. Her art is inspired by the natural world, nurturing and community care, and storytelling.

She is based in Virginia, USA.

As a small kid I scribbled around with a crayon everywhere. I pulled crazy stunts like climbing outside of a banister to reach a wall that would display my art right in the foyer of the house. I had a fire to create fairly young and I’ve just kept going.

I began formalized art instruction in high school. I did not continue with higher art education and honed in on a new skill set. In 2019 I graduated from George Mason University with a B.A. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution.

Art has always been a form of personal and political expression for me. I enjoy making quippy political cartoons, celebrating queerness and femininity, observing plants, and building community while creating.

I am experienced with linoleum print making, dry point etching, acrylic, oil, watercolor, and gouache paint, mural painting, pen and ink, markers, oil and chalk pastel, charcoal, sculpture, ceramics, candle-making, and embroidery.
